Introverts Don’t Hate People, They Hate Shallow Socializing

Twenty20 / @bubblegumwhore

Introverts are generally described as people who gain energy from spending time alone and lose it when being surrounded by many people and engaging in social events. While they often feel like they hate people and cannot stand socializing with others, this doesn’t make them a terrible person nor is it the case!

Solitude is indeed essential for them, representing much more than just a preference. It is vital for their happiness and health, allowing them to restore themselves. As Cheryl Strayed once said, “Alone had always felt like an actual place to me, as if it weren’t a state of being, but rather a room where I could retreat to be who I really was.”

However, there is much more to it than only that! Read on to learn more about introverts and their personality traits!

Everyone has to deal with small talk to a certain extent, and while many people love it, most people truly hate it. It is very important to differentiate between “small talk” and “talking”; the first one means discussing trivial and unimportant matters, while talking refers to discussing virtually anything, including important and meaningful matters.

For introverts, it is much easier to discuss significant topics that are indeed important rather than trivial things that are being said to pass or fill-in free time. However, this doesn’t mean that they should only talk with other introverts in order to really enjoy a conversation. Extroverts also like discussing important topics, but not exclusively.

Even though it is definitely much easier for introverts to speak frankly with others of like mind, all people involved in the discussion can easily enjoy it as long as introverts are capable of staying away from substantial small talk. Therefore, although most of these discussions will not easily shift to important topics, both introverts and extroverts can enjoy it and gain experience and knowledge from it as long both sides are willing to put in the effort.

In addition, this ideology is something that both sides should think about. There is always something to learn, and very often, this information will positively affect your life if you allow it to do so.

The bottom line is that introverts are not strange nor do they hate people! What they hate is small talk, talking about insignificant matters, and being engaged in such substantial discussion. In our culture, extroversion is regarded as the norm and it is often considered as the superior personality type. It`s a shame though, as introverts are great people who have a lot to offer! They are reserved, shy and quit, but also spiritual and loyal people who stick to deep and long-lasting relationships. TC mark
